Biography

Robert Mannino, PhD is a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Wilbur Lam’s lab in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University. Dr. Mannino earned his PhD from the Lam Lab at Georgia Tech and Emory in 2018, where he developed a smartphone app to measure hemoglobin levels using an image of a patients fingernails. He is currently working to refine the app for clinical translation. As Chief Technology Officer of Sanguina, he intends to launch the technology as a healthy lifestyle maintenance tool. Dr. Mannino’s research interests are motivated by his experience living with beta thalassemia major, a blood disorder causing severe anemia and requiring chronic blood transfusions for treatment. He hopes to channel this experience to develop novel technologies to improve patient quality of life.
